We headed out what would be known as “o dark 30” but in reality was about 7:30 am EST. I had a tearful goodbye from my Daughter in law, hating to see me leave, but the moment we left she was ready to move into the house, her winter home.
We ticked off the towns rapidly as we left my home state of Massachusetts and headed west to I 90 New York.
After a few uneventful but bumpy roads we had a small insignificant episode while passing a trailer truck on a skinny no shoulder road and were told, not so politely via CB radio that “if we wanted to end up in a ditch, continue to pass center to right”. I am not sure but isn’t the only way to pass a vehicle is center to right. Maybe I am wrong here only being from Massachusetts.
We continued on with no further incidents other than very bumpy roads and very annoying continuous miles of construction.
We settled in a pull of the road RV park in a town called Cuba, New York where we proceeded to have our first glass of wine of the evening and started the game of naming the campers.
Our first victim of the evening was the man that came to give us the receipt as it was an honor system sign in. Soon after he left we learned that his initials were RGH so he became either Richard or Robert thus the name DickBob was very appropriate. Soon we discovered where DickBob lived in the RV Park and that the well-worn lazy boy chair near the laundry sure had to have been put there by him.
Not long after we noticed another RV’er heading out to his van and proceeded to go to pick up DickBob and the elderly struggling Mrs. DickBob. We assumed this was the other half of the DickBob family possibly the son, DickBob Jr We now assumed they were headed out to dinner.
Mr DickBob we soon learned wasn’t a very nice gentleman as he jumped into the front seat of the van and let the struggling Mrs DickBob fair for herself. It took a few minutes for her to maneuver herself into the van and proceed to shut the door.
This was about all the excitement we had for this first night of my adventure.
