Day 4

We woke up about 5:45am this morning to get under way buy 6:15.. “O dark thirty” for sure. It is cold, foggy and dark as we try to hitch the trailer up quietly and head out for a day we had no idea what would bring. We were under way about 6:39 hopefully not waking up half the campground with the big diesel freightliner.
The roads were smooth, not much if any construction, just dark and foggy as we headed north toward Elkhart Indiana to a place called Charter for hopefully an easy fix that to a novice like me looked very difficult.
After a little mix up with the number system on Country Road 6 (the numbers fault not ours) we found “Charter RV repairs” It was about 7:45am a little later than planned on meeting Sam but good and early for a typical RVer, Apparently Sam thought we would be typical RVers also because he seemed to be running late himself this morning. In his place was a very professional young man that came out and introduced himself as Bill and shook Mike’s hand. To me this shows professionalism. In no time at all he was on the ground making notes of the damage and what would be needed to fix the trailer and send us on our trek west once again. Another man named Billy came to take a look and decided he could do the work and Mike was allowed to back the RV into the bay.
We were told where to go for a nice breakfast. We headed off not knowing when we would see the trailer again unless we had to sleep in it on the premises of the repair shop.
We found the recommended place called Callahan’s, we had been told that it was a buy one get two type of place. We soon found out why. The parking lot was very busy but we managed to find a parking place for the freightliner.
I ordered 2 french toast and 2 eggs over easy on top… I ended up with 4 eggs. I only ate my 2 I ordered. It was a very good place to go to eat, but not one for someone trying to eat sensibly to continue a healthy eating habit while on the road.
After our more than filling breakfast we went up to the RV/MH Museum (RV & Motorhome). This was totally amazing to me. I discovered that RVing went back almost as long as there were automobiles. Some of them were quite amazing. “real pissers” would be a term we used to describe them after we left. They had everything there from pop-up tent campers to model T’s with a slide. It was an hour plus well spent.
After the RV/MH Museum we went back down to Middlebury to go have lunch at the Das Dutch Essenhaus a very nice Amish style restaurant and shopping place.
This area of the country is blessed with the several small Amish communities. I have seen many driving their horse driven buggy’s all around this entire area.
They are so populous around the area that the local Walmart has put up a parking garage for the horse and buggy’s to keep them out of the weather while they shop.
Once again with tummies filled with good food we headed back up to Country Road 6 and Charter to find out how the trailer was coming along. To very much surprise it was just moment away from being finished and us being able to take it on our way. Again I will give credit where credit is due and Bill and Billy did very well with all the repairs that needed done and fine time and fashion. They will be highly recommended and if need be revisited if ever the time or need arises.
We headed south again to our original Indiana destination of Greenfield to visit with Uncle Charlie and Deloris. We arrived just on the outskirts of Greenfield and came to our present campsite called Heartland. This is a very large campground with many amenities. It is now 6:50 pm and has been a very long day.
Time for the daily glass of vino with my brother and a light dinner. I may not have mentioned this but I am staying in the best “bed and breakfast” ever which also includes lunches and dinners in its package. I just can’t beat that.
Tomorrow is another day and we will find time to visit with Uncle Charlie then
