We played tourist today for day 2 in Dodge City. The weather couldn’t be better for walking around ‘Front Street and Boot Hill’. It’s about 90’ here again today with a big blue sky that goes on forever.
First thing you see when you enter the historic part of the city is this Sante Fe engine.
The railroad came to Dodge in 1872 and was used to take the buffalo hides east and when they were depleted it started hauling cows, keeping Dodge the cattle capital of the country.
Here are a few pictures of Boot Hill Cemetery and grave stones. See the boots coming out of the ground?
I also visited the Long Branch Saloon in hopes of finding Matt Dillon only to discover that he never really existed. OH NO!! That can’t be!!! We watched him live on TV for how many years. I believe in Santa Claus and dammit I’m gonna believe in Matt Dillon.
Tomorrow we leave Dodge City and all its wonders. I learned a lot about the days of the Wild West, Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson, the first law in the area. They were before Matt Dillon I would guess that’s why they are in denial that he ever existed.
One thing I am disappointed about and having been in Kansas I never saw one statue of Dorothy, the Tinman, the Lion or the Scarecrow. I guess Dorothy was right when she said. “Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore”.
So tomorrow off to Amarillo, Texas and I’m not sure what treasures I will find on route to there or while we are there but I promise to keep you up to date.
Time for my evening glass, I don’t want my low alcohol light to start flashing.
To all my followers, thank you for reading I smile knowing some one cares.
