We started our day with a fresh baked apple turnover baked by Miss Shirley and headed west at 6:45 MST. Which is the same as Pacific Time. Too confusing for me to comprehend, I have 2 clocks here on my computer time. Home time and vacation time so I will know when 5 o’clock is.
The first few hours were the same lovely scenery we have been having for the past few travel days.
As we traveled further west the mesas got closer to the road. This one seemed to have been giving us the proverbial finger. I am noticing more red in the mountain’s and more rocky looking as opposed to sandy.
I thought this one was pretty while driving by Fake animals live on this huge rock right before we enter Arizona from New Mexico.
I think I have lost count on how many states I have been through up to this point. Mass. New York, Penn. Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico and now Arizona with two to go, Nevada and California before we return back to Arizona and I fly home. I will have stayed in all but Pennsylvania and Illinois.
After traveling for 4 hours we needed to make a pit stop to do some relieving so we made a very quick detour to the Petrified Forest National Park, only passing through I had about 4 ½ minutes to get a picture or two of the petrified trees.
I loved these petrified stumps.
Now that this detour was over we continued west toward Flagstaff and Williams Arizona. Our home for the next week.
The elevation for this place was about 6000’ or higher. My ears felt like they were going start to bleed and we hadn’t reached our highest destination yet.
Well looky here… Pine trees.. and this is just the beginning. From here until we leave here we have forest after forest of ponderosa pines. And only pines. But I have to say they are nowhere near as tall as Paul Bunyan in Hyytinen Hollow.
We have reached our campground in Williams Arizona, and then went to this historic route 66 town for lunch. We parked across from one of many many remaining buildings from the boomtown days of the 40’s and 50’s.
Check out the dance hall girl up in the window.
Okay time to settle in and get this published for all you wonderful readers. I will keep you posted and hopefully entertained during the next week while we make Williams our home.
It will be 5 o’clock by time I get this published.
I guess I never know what to expect on the venture I am on. It was just discovered by me that at 5:45 every evening we go out and wave to the train coming back from the Grand Canyon. After all this is the Railside RV Ranch.
Tomorrow I will be on this train so make sure you wave wildly.
