We decided to play tourist around the outskirts of Amarillo on the OLD route 66. I’m thinking on the wrong side of the tracks. This has become a very depressed broken down area which you can tell was once a very busy little street. After about 2 miles of empty or ram shackled old motels and restaurants way passed the ability to serve another meal in this life time we saw our first glimpse of new life; Fast foods restaurants of every nature that dots this great nation of ours , with all there bright colors and lights for easy recognition from miles away.
Only one thing gave you the hint that you were in Texas and not just anywhere:
Good ole Ronald in all his western garb right down to his red boots. We also came upon the American Quarter Horse Museum. Not really a horse woman any more I had to be impressed with these statues.
We spent the afternoon sitting outside in beautiful bright blue cloudless skies in temperatures up to about 86. I helped preserved my fading tan.
While I was looking around this beautiful place we are parked at I thought about home. Something I do this, not out of home sickness but out of comparison, because I love where I live and wouldn’t want to more than visit any place I have seen so far.
When people visit my home of Hyytinen Hollow in the western part of Massachusetts they say me 2 things, 1st they ask; “What do you do all day?”, for those that know me, “I putter and I relax”. The 2nd thing they say is “It’s so quiet and peaceful here.” Well today I learned exactly what that meant and why they say it.
Trains, planes, and automobiles, trucks, motorcycles and even helium balloons, this place has the constant “sound of motion”. Not for a second is the air completely silenced here. To me it was a major flaw in what should be a perfect spot on earth.
For a few hours I got to sew on a project that I bought at hobby lobby. I’m quilting a quilt panel of Walt Disney’s 4 princesses for my beautiful granddaughter Sophia. I will take a picture of it later.
Well My Brother and Miss Shirley had a surprise for me, at about 5:30 a white Limo with huge horns mounted on the front drove up to our site and took us to a wonderful place called The Big Texan for dinner.
Sure isn't a flattering picture but what can I say?
This place was beyond belief. Everything is done Texas Style and Big. Even the chance to eat a 72 ounce Steak for free. If you can eat it in 60 minutesThese 3 boys tried to do it. I think maybe the one in the black shirt did it. He was close when we left. The guy in the yellow shirt attempted earlier when we first arrived but called it quits after about 35 minutes.
The outside of the restaurant is done in big fashion also.
I was able to take on last picture before I was hurried back into my limo for the ride back to our camp ground.
Thank you my wonderful Hosts. Mike and Miss Shirley for making this day another unforgettable one.
I’m not sure when this will be published as the internet is sketchy here but as soon as I can do it and will keep you up to date on my every adventure.
