Today was a very relaxed laid back day. No hooking up at ‘O dark 30” to head anywhere.
After a nice breakfast of homemade hash and eggs Mike and I went to play tourist and check out the Santa Fe Trail. The trails themselves made by the wagons heading west were now just large ruts in the prairie. We walked the walkway here which I’m guessing wasn’t there when they passed through.
You can see the ruts just under the walkway. The wagons traveled 4 abreast to cut down on dust and make a quicker round up in case of Indians. There are only 2 of the ruts depicted in this picture just to the left of the walk way.
This is a view of what those fortunate travelers had to look forward to. Miles and miles of open prairie as far as the eye can see in all directions. They traveled about 10 to 15 miles per day. I think I will stick to our slow meandering of 300 or so miles a day with all the luxuries of home.
I have to say that I am being treated with worldly cuisine while on this trip. I have had Dutch while in Indiana, Mexican and Chinese here in Dodge City as well as awesome steaks from Montana (Mikes). Wonder if they were from the feed lot in yesterday’s pics. Tonight we are dining on Italian here in the RV.
Got to love my new camera… Look at how skinny I am.
I will finish up the days notes with a picture of the highlight of Miss Shirley and my day. For all you crafters out there, OMG this place needs to come to Massachusetts. If you think you need it or just plain WANT IT… they have it here. Hobby Lobby is on my list now.
Time to play with my Hobby Lobby purchases and to enjoy my evening glass (es) of the red.
:) TY again for sharing. Pics are awesome addition.
